명령문
글로 써 있는 명령문
- Click here.
- Click, please. 와 같이 글로써 명령문을 작성할 때, 대화할 때처럼 please를 사용하지 않음
- 명령문은 ‘글’보다는 ‘말’을 할 때 더 민감하게 반응
Terminator: I need your clothes, boots, and your motorcycle!
Biker : You forgot to say please.
일반적인 명령문
- 동사 원형으로 시작되는 문장
- Be quiet.
- Shut up and go to your room.
- Ok, everybody, listen up!
- = Listen up, everybody!
- Nobody move.
- Somebody answer the phone.
- 주어가 nobody, somebody인데도 동사 move나 answer에 s가 없는 것은 명령문이기 때문
- Don’t talk back to me like that.
- Don’t you talk back to me like that.
- you를 넣으면 더 강해짐 (강조)
- Don’t you ever talk back to me like that.
- ever을 넣으면 한층 더 강해짐 (강조)
- Please, step out of the car, sir?
- Can I see you in my office in ten minutes, please?
- Sir, do you have any change?
- Please, would you open your suitcase, sir?
- I’m trying to watch TV, if you don’t mind.
- trying to, 짜증의 뉘앙스
- Love takes time. You don't want to marry a stranger. You want to make sure that you have things in common.
- want(should의 어감)
- I know you don’t want to marry someone you don’t love.
- want(원하다의 어감)
- A: Let me go before you hurt me any more!
