• 과거 어느 한 시점에서 발생한 일
  • Yesterday it rained all morning.
  • He watched television last night.
• 방금 몇 초 전에 발생한 일도 이미 끝난 상황이라면 단순과거
  • Did the phone ring?

공손한 표현 (i)

• hope, wonder 같은 단어와 함께 공손한 표현을 하는 경우 단순과거 사용
  • I wondered if you were free this evening.
  • I hoped we could have a quick word before the meeting.
